Our History

Our venue is located on the historical Tomoka River. We sit atop what was known in earlier days as "Coquina Ridge".

Named as such because the coquina bluffs where  far above the water line and a barrier for predators.  Alligators in those days grew to enormous size.

If you have visited The Rivergrille Restaurant, you were sitting on

 The Bluff.

The Lost Causeway

.........................................................

The Lost Causeway ran along side the Bluff to the waters edge.

King's Ferry at Tomoka Crossing

.........................................................

From the Lost Causeway, a hand pulled ferry was used to shuttle the wagons, animals and crops across.  Pictured is a similar style ferry used during the period.

Mapping It Out

.........................................................

From the overhead view, you can see where the Lost Causeway

came to the river at Buckhead Bluff Landing. The Ferry went

across to what is now the Tomoka Landing Marina area and

the Ormond Outpost River Lot.
